Summit of the Americas – The whole enterprise evoked the image of a privileged but lazy student who figures he can get an A on the test even if he doesn’t study or do his homework. On the final day, a South American diplomat summed up the meeting in a word: “improvised.”

The G7 launched the Build Back Better World (B3W) initiative as an alternative to China’s BRI. For the 2022 summit, the major agenda item will be the war in Ukraine and the need to “cement a united Western bloc and finding other ways to increase the economic pain for Moscow.

BRICS – Cooperation agreements have been signed between May and June in several key areas including vaccines, food security, trade, digital economy, and aerospace. More meetings under the BRICS partnership will be held in the second half of the year in China.

… Quick on the heels of Biden’s remarks, Belize’s prime minister, John Briceño, publicly objected to countries being excluded from the summit by the United States and to the continued U.S. embargo on Cuba.

“This summit belongs to all of the Americas — it is therefore inexcusable that there are countries of the Americas that are not here, and the power of the summit is diminished by their absence,” Briceño said. “At this most critical juncture, when the future of our hemisphere is at stake, we stand divided.
